The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is in the initial phase of preparing a Park Needs Assessment (PNA) for the first time since 2009. In this early phase, they aim to find out from residents what needs they and their families have when it comes to parks and recreation and how well they think the current system is meeting those needs. This applies to LA City parks only. Please follow this link to find information on upcoming community meetings and for links to the long and short surveys. The goal is to have the PNA done by late fall 2025.
LA City parks in our SFV Audubon area include the Sepulveda Basin, Hansen Dam, and O’Melveny Park, and each is crucial to our conservation and education programming. The LA City Recreation & Parks Department has been severely underfunded since 2010 when the City began charging them an “administrative fee”, which to date is well over a billion dollars of lost funding. Here is a link to an article explaining this process. We are all aware of issues with maintenance, safety, and enforcement, and this is an opportunity for you to weigh in. Please take a few minutes to fill out one of the surveys. There is also a Zoom webinar Community Meeting on March 18, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm where you can make comments and get more information.
