SAN FERNANDO VALLEY AUDUBON SOCIETY is proud to announce the donation of new equipment to LAFD Station 88 to help defend the our wildlife areas from fires. A BRUSH PATROL SKID UNIT, a self-contained firefighting system that is mounted on a heavy duty pick-up truck, was purchased by SFV Audubon Society and the LAFD Foundation, to help LAFD Station 88 rapidly deploy an agile defense in Sepulveda Basin and other areas not accessible to large firetrucks. The unit purchased contains a 200 gallon water tank, 200 feet of hose and a high pressure pump.
There are hundreds of fires in the 2100 acre basin annually, threatening park users, habitat, wildlife and the surrounding community. “LAFD Station 88 has constantly stepped up to fighting fires in the Sepulveda Basin, helping to preserve the Wildlife Reserve that is continually set on fire by vagrants, etc. SFV Audubon donated funding for the SKID in recognition of LAFD #88’s dedication, and to show our support for an LA City Department that shares our values,” stated Kathryn Barton, President of SFV Audubon Society.
The unit was formally dedicated in service at LAFD Station 88 on August 12, 2025. Here are links to the local TV Coverage: KTLA KTTV
