This year, the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society is thrilled to offer a truly unique opportunity for our supporters. As part of our 2026 Birdathon, we are hosting an exclusive, two-day immersive Raptor Photography Workshop led by acclaimed wildlife photographer and SFVAS Director, Ryan Carter.
Whether you are looking to capture your first clear hawk in flight or want to refine your professional wildlife portfolio, this workshop offers a rare level of access and expertise.
About the Instructor
Ryan Carter is the author of Birds Prey Too and a seasoned professional whose work has graced over 300 magazine covers. His deep understanding of raptor behavior and technical photography skills makes him the perfect guide for this field and classroom experience.
Workshop Details

Day 1: Field Experience
- When: May 16, 2026 | 6:00 AM
- Where: Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve
- Focus: Observing and photographing birds of prey in their natural habitat. Participants will learn how to identify raptors and understand their behavioral cues to anticipate the perfect shot.

Day 2: Classroom Workshop
- When: May 17, 2026
- Where: Private Location (TBA to participants)
- Focus: Improving wildlife photography techniques, post-processing tips, and a deeper dive into the art of avian photography.

There is a suggested donation of $100 for this event. 100% of the proceeds directly support the SFVAS Birdathon and our Sepulveda Basin Environmental Education Program (SBEEP), helping us inspire the next generation of conservationists.
