Hansen Dam – SFVAS + RAP!

Today our regular Hansen Dam birding trip was joined by a nature walk sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department (RAP)! It was great having so many new faces on the walk – all different ages, levels of birding experience and interests. We were also blessed to have eerily cool and cloudy weather for the 4th Saturday in July – reaching about 72° at the end of the walk. Thirty species of birds were seen or clearly heard – not bad for a midsummer day. High points were a goofy acting juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk, Rock Wrens, and a Blue Grosbeak – here’s a link to the eBird Checklist. RAP recently published a brief video describing Hansen Dam and our SFVAS bird walks there – thank you RAP for supporting our SFV Audubon programming! Check our calendar for upcoming events.
