Do you love exploring nature and discovering feathered friends in your own backyard or local park? The Eagle Eyes Young Birders Club is the perfect place for you to connect with nature and learn about the fascinating world of birds! \nWhat We Offer:  \n\nFun Outdoor Adventures: Join us for bird watching hikes and local outings that help you learn to identify birds in suburban habitats.\nNature Journaling: This activity allows each participant to share their experience using drawing tools. Leaders will provide instruction and guidance.\nInteractive Learning: Our experienced leader will guide you in spotting birds and understanding their behaviors\, all while sharing tips on how to protect local wildlife.\nCommunity & Friendships: Meet other children who share your love for nature and make new friends through fun\, bird-themed events and challenges!\n\nWhy Birding?  \nBird watching is more than just a hobby—it’s a way to connect with the environment\, learn about conservation\, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world around you. Plus\, it’s a fantastic way to get outside\, explore your neighborhood\, and enjoy the beauty of suburban wildlife! \nWho Can Join?  \nThe Eagle Eyes Young Birders Club is open to all children aged 6-12 who are excited to discover the amazing variety of birds living right in their own backyards and local parks. No prior experience needed—just bring your curiosity! DESCRIPTION:The Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Areas Steering Committee (SBWASC) oversees\, in its advisory capacity\, the wildlife reserve areas and other areas of present or potential natural value within the Sepulveda Basin\, including the Los Angeles River and its tributaries; and supports policies and programs that ensure their long term preservation and protection. The SBWASC is advisory to the City of Los Angeles and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and members include Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley Audubon Societies\, Angeles and San Fernando Valley Sierra Club\, California Native Plant Society\, Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains and Friends of the Los Angeles River.

DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Ackerman’s presentation will focus on her latest book\, What an Owl Knows: The New Science of the World’s Most Enigmatic Birds. This book was an instant New York Times bestseller and has been described in reviews as “eloquent and engaging\,” “a fascinating read\,” and “a masterful survey.” \nThe presentation will explore what we’ve learned in the past decade or two about owls. Jennifer will explain how owls communicate\, how they court\, mate\, raise their young\, and how they relate to one another and to us. We will learn about people who’ve devoted their lives to studying these beautiful birds as well as those who work one-on-one with owls in areas of rehabilitation and training. \n \nJennifer Ackerman has been writing about science\, nature\, and health for more than three decades. Her essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times\, Scientific American\, Natural History\, and many other publications. For seven years\, she was a staff writer and researcher for the Book Division of the National Geographic Society.
