SUMMARY:Franklin Canyon Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:This walk runs approximately 2 hours. The trail is a gentle assent into the chaparral. It is not wheelchair accessible. The final portion of the walk is the small lake and pond. The challenge of the walk is spotting birds as they dart under bushes into trees and fly downslope. Bring your bird gear\, binoculars\, hats\, water and walking shoes. All levels are welcome. Appreciation of birds is our mantra. \nNote: Walks may occasionally be canceled due to inclement weather. If you’re unsure whether a walk is taking place\, please contact Walk Leader Paula Orlovich at (747) 237-3720.  \nDirections: From the San Fernando Valley\, take the Ventura Freeway (101) or Ventura Blvd. to Coldwater Canyon Blvd. Head south to the intersection of Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland Drive. Make a 90-degree right turn onto Franklin Canyon Drive.

SUMMARY:A Bird Sit with Nature Journaling
DESCRIPTION:A Bird Sit is an alternative approach to birding. Instead of extended walking and standing\, it involves finding a comfortable spot in nature to sit\, slow down\, be in the moment\, and notice details and behavior patterns. \nA Bird Sit is not list-driven. It is not always trying to get the next bird. It is a way of expanding your awareness of and connection to birds (and all of nature!)  And recording your Bird Sit experiences in a journal using words\, numbers\, and/or pictures can be very rewarding! \nIf you would like to mindfully connect with birds and all of nature\, join us at the picnic tables near the restrooms. What to bring: binoculars\, a journal\, something to write/draw with and a beverage/snack. \nThis event is limited to 10 people. To reserve your spot\, contact Teri Carnesciali at teri.carnesciali@sfvaudubon.org or Mary Lou Sharp at mary.lou.sharp@sfvaudubon.org. \nIn the event of rain\, extreme temperatures or high winds\, the bird sit will be moved to the 3rd Thursday.
